READING:
We continue to read the story "The Three Little Javelinas". We are working on vocabulary, discussing the genre: folktales, drawing conclusions, compare and contrast different versions, and studying comprehension skills. . Ask them about it! Keep reading nightly and record on the Reading Calendar to be turned in on Monday in the Red Folders. Remember to read for AT LEAST 15 minutes on 3 separate nights....HAPPY READING! ")
WRITING:
We are working on Guide words in the dictionary and editing for spelling errors, capitalization, and endmarks. We are working with possessive pronouns this week. We continue to work on writing Weekend Reports every Monday and Squiggles every Wednesday. We are focusing on writing a complete sentence with a capital letter, a complete thought, and an endmark. We are also learning to use graphic organizers to help with our prewrites. With every sentence we write, we try to think of one good detail sentence to add to our stories. The kids LOVE winning Squiggle Puppy...We look for GREAT details, CORRECT capitalization and punctuation, and a great story! :)
SPELLING:

MATH:
We are continuing our unit in geometry. We are discussing and using line segments, rays, lines, and right angles, obtuse angles, and acute angles. We will also be learning about 2 dimensional shape as well as 3 dimensional shapes. Learning about symmetry will be fun! We will be doing some projects to "mirror" the other side! PLEASE continue studying MULTIPLICATION FACTS AT HOME...we are finishing our timed tests. A GREAT site to practice and even take tests right on the computer is multiplication.com.
HEALTH:
We switched classes on Wednesday. Mrs. Beeker's 3rd graders are learning about drugs and alcohol. Specifically, we are studying the effects of drugs on our body. Our motto is: "If you never start, you never have to stop!" We are also learning about medicine safety and the rules that apply. The test over the unit will be on FEBRUARY 24th.
HANDWRITING:
