READING: The story we are reading is called "How Chipmunk got His Stripes". This is a folktale and also teaches an important lesson (be kind and don't brag or be boastful). We will be comparing and contrasting the character traits of the two main characters, writing about the different traits, as well as identifying facts and opinions in our reading. During phonics we will be practicing verbs and how to change them to past or present.
WRITING:
We will are working on creative stories in writing and adding details to all of our writing. We continue to work on writing creative stories. We are starting to be creative in our SQUIGGLE stories each week. This is where the students receive a squiggle mark, then have to draw something using the squiggle and then write about it! We are creating some awesome writing in our journals and we are exciting to do so many writing projects! We continue to work on writing Weekend Reports every Monday. We are focusing on writing a complete sentence with a capital letter, a complete thought, and an end mark. We are also learning to use graphic organizers to help with our pre-writes. With every sentence we write, we try to think of one good detail sentence to add to our stories.
