Week of April 20th - May 1st.

READING:We are reading  a new story this week called, "Officer Buckle and Gloria". We are working on main idea, sequencing, summarizing, questioning, vocabulary, and comprehension. In grammar, we are working on adverbs, compound words, and cause and effect. We are starting this story on Wed. of this week and continuing through Friday of next week.
WRITING:
In Being a Writer, we are working on nonfiction pieces.  We are still working on personal narratives and persuasive paragraphs also in writing and adding details to all of our stories.  We continue to work on writing  creative stories and adding more detail. We continue to be creative in our SQUIGGLE stories each week. This is  where the students receive a squiggle mark, then have to draw something using the squiggle and then write about it! We are creating  some awesome writing in our journals and we are exciting to do so many writing projects!  We continue to work on writing Weekend Reports every Monday. We are focusing on writing a complete sentence with a capital letter, a complete thought, and an endmark. We are also learning to use graphic organizers to help with our pre-writes. With every sentence we write, we try to think of one good detail sentence to add to our stories.
SPELLING:
There will be a  spelling test this Wed. and a pretest.  ....words will ALWAYS be placed in the Red Folder for the week.  For the rest of the school year, we will only be reading stories for one week. We will continue to take spelling tests on WED. and then do a pretest for the following WED.
If your child is on a challenge list... make sure you check the Red Folder for the word list. Please keep one list at home on the fridge, and the other in the Red Folder for us to use at school. Thanks!
MATH:
We continue to work on money story problems, addition and subtraction facts in the hundreds and 1000's place, and are introducing arrays with multiplication and division.  Try to have your child log in to MOBY MAX to work on math facts. We are also continuing to review all concepts learned so far this year and problem solving. Continue to watch for HOMELINKS coming home in the Red Folder to work on and return. We are also using Fun4yourbrain website for practicing addition and subtraction. Please continue to work on money and identifying coins!
SCIENCE:
Habitats is our new unit for the next 3 weeks. We will introduce the students to different habitats and how living things affect these environments. We are taking a zoo trip to enrich the students in different habitat life. Also, we will be creating a project using a shoebox to share our knowledge of different habitats.
